Spanish Rafael Nadal has emerged victorious from the 2016 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell tennis championship, in the singles division, making this the 11th win for Spain.

In the final match, Nadal beat Japanese player Kei Nishikori, with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. In 2014, Nishikori led Japan to victory for the first time in this championship and again in 2015.

The legendary Nadal won this championship in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Other Spanish champions are Carlos Moyá who won in 2003, Tommy Robredo who won in 2004, and Fernando Verdasco who won in 2010.

Since the first edition of this championship, celebrated in 1953, under the name of “Torneo Godó”, the first time for Japan to win was in 2014 thanks to Nishikori. Also, Nishikori won last year (2015).

In this year’s championship doubles division, American players, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, took home the gold. The American duo won the final match against Argentinean Pablo Cuevas and Spanish Marcel Granollers, with the result of 7-5 and 7-5.

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan perform outstandingly together and have won two Olympic medals. In the 2012 London Summer Olympics they won gold, and bronze at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.
