5.6% decrease in number of tourists in 2015: CAPMAS

The total length of stay by all visiting tourists was 84.1m nights during 2015, compared to 97.3m nights during 2014, a decrease of 13.5%


The number of tourists arriving in Egypt decreased to 9.3 million during 2015, compared to 9.9 million in 2014, an overall decline of 5.6%, according to the annual bulleting for tourism statistics issued on Wednesday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The bulletin revealed that the 37.7% of tourists arrived from Eastern Europe during 2015, followed by 35.1% from Western Europe, and 15.2% from the Middle East.

The total length of stay by all visiting tourists was 84.1m nights during 2015, compared to 97.3m nights during 2014, a decrease of 13.5%.

Eastern European tourists stayed the most nights, at 39% of the total, followed by Western Europeans at 35.2%, and then Middle Eastern tourists at 16.7%, according to the bulletin.

The number of tourists from Arab countries was 1.7 million in 2015, compared to 1.6 million tourists in 2014, an increase of 6.7%; and 18.6% of the total number of tourists.

Tourists from Arab countries stayed a total of 16.8m nights during 2015, compared to 19m nights during 2014, a decrease of 11.5% and 20% of the total nights.

The average length of stay was 9.1 nights in 2015, compared to 10.2 nights during 2014.
