Investigative journalist summoned by Military Intelligence

Investigative journalist and leading human rights activist Hossam Bahgat was summoned by the Military Intelligence for questioning Sunday morning, for reasons that remain unknown, Mada Masr reported.

Bahgat received the summons at his home address in Alexandria on Thursday.

Until the time of publishing, Bahgat was still undergoing investigation, according to Mada Masr reporter Mostafa Mohy.

As a contributor to Mada Masr since 2014, Bahgat has published several investigative reports as well as a daily roundup of news stories from different newspapers. He also founded local NGO Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) in 2002.

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) also reported the incident.

Many activists and reporters have expressed their support and concern regarding Bahgat’s summoning via social media outlets since the news broke on Sunday morning.
