The Foreign Ministry welcomed the Mali agreement for peace and reconciliation signed Sunday between the Malian government and a number of armed groups in the West African country.

The agreement was mediated and signed in Algeria.

On Tuesday, Egypt called on other armed groups to sign the agreement, expressing hope for all parties in Mali to commit to implementing the agreement in full, with seriousness and sincerity, to spare the country the scourge of war and division.

Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra signed the peace agreement as part of mediation team.

Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop, the Secretary-General of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad Bilal Acherif, and Head of the UN Mission for Mali (MINUSMA) Mongi Hamdi were also present.
