Accident on Red Sea-Sohag desert road leaves 3 dead, 12 injured

Three people died as a result of a collision between a microbus and a car on the Red Sea-Sohag desert road on Saturday morning.

The deceased included a clerk at the Department of Civil Status, who was driving the car, and his elderly mother and father accompanying him.  The accident occurred at kilometre 90 of Akhmem village near Sohag.

The head of the Sohag Security Directorate Ibrahim Saber went to the scene along with representatives from the general prosecutor’ office to examine the evidence.

The injured were sent Sohag Public Hospital and Sohag Educational Hospital, while the dead were transported to Akhmem Central Hospital.

A crash involving a school bus and a lorry on the Egypt-Alexandria road left 18 people dead last Wednesday. Another accident, which took place on Kamawel road, on the outskirts of Sohag, left 10 students dead on 2 November.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), Egypt has the highest rate of road accidents in the Middle East, with an average of nearly 12,000 deaths annually.
