Starting Friday, 24 January, the System Development and Gaming Center of Excellence at the Information Technology Institute (ITI) will hold the second annual Game Jam. The 3-day event will take place at ITI’s premises in Smart Village.

Game Jam 2014, held in coordination with Global Game Jam, will be a gathering for all professionals, talented individuals, hobbyists and enthusiasts in the game development industry. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment new platforms and games, develop new skills and talents through participating in different activities, and exchange knowledge and ideas.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) stated that the event aims to “spread technological awareness of developing electronic games among Egyptian youth to enrich Egypt’s market, thus preserving Egyptian culture and identity”.

An official statement issued by the MCIT noted that Game Jam is “the world’s largest event in this field, gathering professionals and enthusiasts”.

“More than 400 specialists are to participate at this year’s event”, the ministerial statement read, adding that the event “comes under the sponsorship of several Egyptian and global companies that will provide prizes for games held at the event”.

Both Egyptian and international gaming companies will organise several training programs for participants, providing them with information of the latest technologies in electronic games.

In 2013, more than 300 locations in 63 states worldwide, totaling more than 16,000 participants and specialists, took part in the event.
