The head of the Al-Wafd Party El-Sayed Al-Badawi will travel to Sudan to discuss the situation in Egypt with high ranking officials, according to a Sunday statement by the party.

General Secretary for Al-Wafd party Fouad Badrawi said in a phone call with Daily News Egypt that El-Badawi will discuss the domestic situation in Egypt as well as other regional issues, including Egypt’s African Union status with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.

Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat allowed El-Badawi to travel after he was previously barred from leaving the country due his placement on a travel ban, following a decision made by previous Prosecutor General Talaat Abdalla on 29 June. Barakat was accused of attempting to overthrow former president Mohamed Morsi’s regime.

Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nabil Fahmy travelled to Sudan last Monday to discuss bilateral relations, regional affairs, and the “unacceptable” decision of the African Union, according to Egyptian foreign ministry spokesman Badr Abdelaty.

In a press conference last week, Fahmy stated that he expected Sudan to “actively tackle” Egypt’s suspension from the African union.
