CAIRO: An Egyptian court has sentenced a Hosni Mubarak-era Cabinet minister to three years in prison after convicting him of corruption.

The verdict against businessman and former Tourism Minister Zoheir Garanah was announced on Sunday.

He is the latest senior member of the former regime to be convicted of corruption since the popular uprising toppled Mubarak in February.

Steel magnate Ahmed Ezz was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Friday. Former Trade Minister Rachid Mohammed Rachid, who remains at large, was sentenced to 15 years in the same case.

In May, Mubarak’s security chief Habib El-Adly became the first of some two dozen detained regime leaders to be convicted. He was sentenced to 12 years for money laundering and other corruption charges.
