CAIRO: The British national arrested during the clashes in Tahrir Square on the night of Wednesday June 29 has been released, according to a British embassy source in Cairo.

The official MENA news agency reported on June 30 that an American and a British national had been arrested by the police for their role in the protests.

“Our Consular team visited the [British national] and provided consular assistance,” an embassy member said in an email, without naming the citizen in question or stating whether or not he/she is still in the country. “The BN was released on Thursday 30 June.”

However, a US embassy source, told Daily News Egypt in a telephone interview that the embassy was unable to get any information regarding the alleged arrested American.

Neither the arrested American nor members of his family have contacted the embassy, the source said.
