CAIRO: Hamada Nabil, from Abul Nomros in Giza, said he was beaten with a stick filled with small metal balls while protesters were being dispersed in Tahrir Square at midnight on Tuesday, and added that he cannot find a safe place to receive medical treatment.

“We were at the square protesting peacefully when security started using teargas heavily,” Nabil told Daily News Egypt. “I got beaten with a stick full of small metal balls which got stuck inside my body.”

Nabil, with metal balls all over his body, headed to the Red Crescent Hospital for treatment. However, a doctor there advised him to seek medical treatment elsewhere, as he could be arrested and interrogated by security officials.

“I can’t find a safe place to be treated at now,” Nabil said.

A mass demonstration at Tahrir Square was dispersed by security forces using teargas and water cannons on Tuesday, and a large numbers of protesters were reportedly arrested.

Human rights groups said that injured protesters who were transferred to hospitals were harassed by police and were transferred to camps controlled by central security forces before receiving medical treatment.
