CAIRO: A man detained at Cairo Airport while he was en route to watch Egypt’s World Cup playoff match against Algeria in Sudan was released last week, after seven days in custody.

Abdel-Latif Mohamed Said was detained by State Security Investigations (SSI) officers at Cairo Airport on Wednesday Nov. 18, 2009.

He was then transferred to a SSI facility in northern Cairo.

The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) reports that Said was released without charge on Wednesday Nov. 25, 2009.

Said says he was not mistreated while in SS custody, according to EIPR.

The 40 year-old Quranist, who was banned from travelling to the United States in April this year, is currently seeking to overturn the administrative travel ban imposed on him in a legal case against the Interior Ministry.
