CAIRO: Ahly are in the market for a new keeper to strengthen that position either in January or next summer, goalkeeping coach Ahmed Nagi said on Wednesday.

We want to sign a new keeper. We have already lined up some names and we hope we can recruit one of them, Nagi told Egyptian Radio.

We are interested in Ittihad keeper Al-Hani Soliman, Mansoura s Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud and Ismaili s Mohamed Sobhi.

Soliman and Aboul-Saoud have been recently named in Egypt s squad for the World Cup qualifier at Zambia to act as understudies to regular guardian Essam Al-Hadari, whose departure from Ahly left them in goalkeeping dilemma.

The veteran goalie joined Swiss side Sion in February 2008 without the consent of Ahly, who have since struggled to fill in for him.

Amir Abdel-Hamid took his place between the sticks but a string of disappointing displays landed him in hot water with the Red Devils fans.

Palestinian Ramzi Saleh, who joined Ahly last summer, was a natural replacement afterwards but he did not live up to expectations despite initially producing some promising performances.

Ahmed Abdel-Monem, who used to be Ahly s third-choice keeper, is their current regular custodian.
