CAIRO: Referee Medhat Abdel-Aziz, a former Gaish player, was at the center of controversy after officiating a match between his former club and Arab Contractors in the league opener.

Contractors fumed at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) refereeing committee after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The committee should take such matters into account when appointing the referees, the team s assistant coach Mohamed Oda said.

Abdel-Aziz played for Gaish before so he wasn t the suitable referee to take charge of the game.

We also filed a complaint against him last year following his bad performance in our game against Ahly.

Abdel-Aziz sent off two Contractors players but the Mountain Wolves managed to hold Ahly to a goalless draw in the early stages of last season.
