JOHANNESBURG: World football body FIFA went online in Arabic on Thursday, the first non-European language version of its website ahead of three competitions in the Arab world in the next six months.

The Arabic FIFA.com, which joins English, French, German and Spanish versions, reflects a move toward the fastest-growing language on the Internet, growing by more than 2,000 percent between 2000 and 2008, FIFA said.

The U-20 World Cup in Egypt, and the Beach Soccer World Cup and Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will take place later this year. -AFP
