CAIRO: African champions Egypt are set to play Brazil in next year s Confederations Cup after South Africa have been seeded on top of Group A.

The competition rules separate countries from the same confederation, which means The Pharaohs will play in Group B.

With South Africa avoiding the title holders in the group stage, Hassan Shehata s men will find themselves face to face with Brazil in June.

Egypt will also clash with either EURO 2008 champions Spain or World Cup winners Italy in the same group.

New Zealand, Iraq, and the United States complete the eight-team tournament.

FIFA will officially announce the rest of the seeds later. The draw will be held on Nov. 22.

The Confederations Cup will be staged one year before the kick-off of the first World Cup to be hosted in Africa.
