CAIRO: Egypt s friendly game against Iran has been cancelled for political reasons, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Samir Zaher revealed on Wednesday.
The African champions were scheduled to face Iran on Aug. 20.
The Egyptian foreign ministry told us to reconsider playing the match, Zaher told Dream TV.
They did not oblige us to cancel it, but we decided to call off the match.
Egypt s shaky relations with Iran took a fresh twist after the emergence of a new Iranian documentary over the assassination of former president Anwar Sadat.
The documentary film was deemed offensive by the Egyptian government.
