Gharbia Movement files lawsuit to slash soaring public transportation costs

CAIRO: El-Gharbia Movement filed a lawsuit against the Public Transportation Authority to decrease the price of tickets on public transportation.

Comprised of activists from El-Gharbia governorate, the group is rallying against the rising cost of public transportation, which have recently spiked after the government’s decision to increase the price of car licenses, fuel and cigarettes.

The verdict is expected to come out in 15 days, according to a statement released by the movement.

The movement is asking to decrease ticket prices in 28 governorate including El-Gharbia.

A press release that was published on El-Gharbia Movement website also stated that Mahmoud Al-Askalany, the official spokesperson of the movement, asked lawyers from around the country to join forces to decrease public transportation prices, which “have recently increased tremendously, without a valid reason.

The price of public transportation tickets have increased by around 25-40 piasters in the last two weeks.
