Egypt-Ukraine trade exchange rises to $500 mln

CAIRO: Egypt-Ukraine trade exchange increased to $500 million from January to July 2007, said Yevhen Mykytenko, the Ukrainian Ambassador in Cairo.

Egypt s exports to Ukraine – mainly rice, fruit, processed food, medicine, ceramics and plastics – rose by about 50 percent to reach $83 million, he said.

Meanwhile, Egypt s imports from Ukraine rose to about $420 million. Egypt imports iron, steel, wheat and chemicals from the Ukraine.

Also, a rise was seen in the Ukrainian tourist flow to Egypt with about 250,000 Ukrainian tourists visiting Egypt since the beginning of January, the ambassador noted. During 2006, only 160,000 Ukrainian tourists visited Egypt.

In the services sector, Egypt serviced Ukrainian ships and planes to the tune of $16 million while Ukraine serviced Egyptian ships and planes to a value of $20 million.
