CAIRO: Orascom Construction Industries has signed a LE 760 million deal with the Cairo Electricity Production Company for work on the El Tebbin thermal power plant south of Cairo, the company said Sunday.

The contract is for the construction of a new 2 by 350 megawatt terminal near the industrial areas of Helwan and Maadi, 25 km south of Cairo, it said in an announcement.

The El Tebbin contract is the second power project to be executed by OCI, Egypt s Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis was quoted as saying in the announcement.

The ministry runs the Cairo Electricity Production Company.

The El Tebbin contract further consolidates OCI s leadership in the construction of industrial energy facilities, said Osama Bishai, OCI s construction group managing director.

OCI is also pursuing similar projects in Algeria and continues to monitor infrastructure expansion programs across the region.

Orascom Construction is a unit of Egypt s Orascom conglomerate, which also includes Orascom Telecom Holding and Orascom Hotels and Development.
