CAIRO: Egypt striker Mido hopes to make a quick recovery from the injury that forced him off the pitch early in Saturday s African Nations Cup win over Ivory Coast.

Mido suffered a groin strain and was forced to leave the pitch in the 24th minute as Egypt won 3-1 to clinch top place in Group A and a quarter-final berth at the tournament.

But it s not serious and I hope to catch the next game, he told reporters after the match.

We are very encouraged by the win against a very forceful Ivorian side. I thought we played with great courage to win the game, said the Tottenham Hotspur forward.

We are not really concerned with who we play next. Every side here is hard to beat. Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan said the massive support for his side, estimated at some 77,000 in the Cairo International stadium, proved decisive for his side.

I hope the public will give us the same kind of support in the next match. It was a very difficult game but perhaps not with the same intensity as we had in the match before against Morocco which was a real derby, Hassan said after the game.

Egypt will play the runners-up in Group B, which finishes in Cairo on Sunday, on Feb. 3. The Ivory Coast will meet the Group B winners the next day, also in Cairo. Reuters
