In another attack on security personnel in the volatile Sinai Peninsula, two police officers were killed on Friday when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in Al-Arish, according to the Ministry of Interior.

A conscript was also injured in the attack. The ministry added that three were in a police truck distributing water rations to personnel stationed at different checkpoints. The IED was detonated as the truck was passing.

The media office of the ministry said the forces are intensifying their efforts to find the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, state media and pro-government newspapers have reported casualties among the lines of militants, as the Egyptian Armed Forces have launched a wide-reaching retaliation operation in North Sinai after a deadly attack on a checkpoint last week.
