Two men have been arrested on charges of running social media pages that incite violence and disorder, and stand accused of belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, according to state media.
The Ministry of Interior announced that investigations online, using “modern techniques of examining digital fingerprints”, connected the men to sites supporting violent Islamist militant groups.
One of the men is accused of running the “Revolutionary Punishment” Facebook page; the group that has been behind numerous small scale attacks on government personnel and facilities.
Nine alleged members of the cell were recently arrested after the group published a video online of the execution of a resident of the Helwan district of Cairo. In the six-minute video, a 25-year-old man called Walid Ahmed confessed to working as an informant for the security forces and supporting them in their arrests of protesters.
The men have been detained for 15 days pending investigations.
