National Bank of Egypt 2025 net profit rises to EGP 175.5bn

The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) reported a net profit after tax of EGP 175.5bn for the financial year ending Dec. 31, 2025, up from EGP 133.3bn the previous year, the bank announced following its general assembly meeting on Monday.

 

The bank recorded a pre-tax profit of EGP 312.5bn for 2025. Total assets grew by 13% to EGP 9.2 trillion by the end of December 2025, compared to EGP 8.1 trillion in 2024, and reached approximately EGP 10.6 trillion by the end of August 2026.

 

National Bank of Egypt’s total equity increased by EGP 156bn year-on-year to reach EGP 690bn. Customer deposits rose by 15% to EGP 5.7 trillion in December 2025, an increase of EGP 734bn from 2024, and further grew to EGP 6.4 trillion by August 2026. The bank’s customer base reached 21.7 million in 2025, up from 21.5 million in 2024.

 

The total customer and bank loan portfolio expanded by 22% to EGP 4.8 trillion in 2025, up from EGP 3.9 trillion, rising to EGP 5.8 trillion by August 2026. Corporate loans increased by 23%, or EGP 779bn, to EGP 4.2 trillion, compared to EGP 3.4 trillion in 2024, and surpassed EGP 5 trillion by August 2026.

 

Retail lending grew by 23%, or EGP 81bn, to EGP 438bn in December 2025, reaching EGP 506bn by August 2026. Financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) rose 13% to EGP 195bn, compared to EGP 172bn in 2024, and reached EGP 218bn by August 2026.

 

National Bank of Egypt’s non-performing loan (NPL) ratio dropped to 0.8% of total loans in December 2025 from 0.9% in December 2024. The bank conducted settlements for 8,089 clients with irregular debts totalling EGP 35.1bn. Collections from NPLs reached EGP 8.2bn in December 2025, compared to EGP 5.8bn in 2024.

 

Digital transactions through the InstaPay network (IPN) reached approximately 717 million transfers valued at EGP 2.87 trillion in 2025, a 91% increase in value from EGP 1.5 trillion across 333 million transactions in 2024.

 

Moreover, the National Bank of Egypt expanded its infrastructure to 7,572 automated teller machines (ATMs) and 758,000 point-of-sale (POS) terminals. It issued 1.9 million credit cards and 8.4 million debit cards.

 

NBE’s network exceeded 700 branches and units nationwide, including 38 electronic service branches, alongside international branches and offices in Johannesburg, Dubai, Addis Ababa, New York, Shanghai, and Riyadh.

 

The bank allocated EGP 2bn to corporate social responsibility initiatives covering health, education, slum development, and support for women and individuals with disabilities. NBE stated it received several regional and international awards in retail, digital services, social responsibility, and financial inclusion during the financial year.
