Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Ghanaian President John Mahama discussed expanding trade, investment, and economic cooperation as Ghana prepares to assume the African Union (AU) presidency in 2027, with Egypt seeking closer coordination with Accra within the continental bloc.
The meeting was held in New Alamein on the sidelines of the eighth African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, according to the Egyptian presidency.
Al-Sisi said Egypt looked forward to close coordination with Ghana during its upcoming AU presidency and called for stronger bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment.
He also underscored the importance of the private sector and welcomed the growing presence of Egyptian companies in Ghana, as well as the support provided by the Ghanaian authorities for their operations and expansion.
The presidency did not announce any new investment agreements or specific projects following the meeting. However, it said the two sides expressed a desire to increase trade and investment and make greater use of Egyptian expertise in sectors considered priorities for Ghana.
For his part, Mahama said Ghana looked forward to continued consultation and coordination with Egypt during its AU presidency, while praising the contribution of Egyptian companies to development projects in Ghana.
He also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in areas where Egypt has significant experience and capabilities, according to the presidency.
