Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, said proactive planning and continued coordination between the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy had enabled Egypt to efficiently manage unprecedented increases in energy demand.
The measures ensured the supplies needed to meet record electricity loads exceeding 40,000 megawatts during the summer, while maintaining the stability and regular operation of the national natural gas network, Badawi said.
He noted that this was achieved through advance planning and enhanced readiness to address various potential scenarios, allowing for a swift response to any changes or emergencies and ensuring continuity of supplies.
Badawi made the remarks during an inspection on Wednesday of the National Natural Gas Grid Control Center (NATA) at the headquarters of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO).
The visit aimed to follow up on natural gas supplies and the regular flow of gas to various consumer sectors, with a focus on power generation plants and industrial facilities, as well as assess the network’s readiness to meet consumption requirements during the summer peak.
Badawi was briefed on the operation of the network and the status of natural gas supplies in a presentation delivered by Mohamed Marzouk, Chairperson of GASCO. Marzouk reviewed the efficiency of the control and operating system in managing gas flows and maintaining regular supplies to various sectors of the domestic market, in line with pre-established plans to address increases in consumption as well as emergency and exceptional circumstances.
The Petroleum Minister praised the efficiency and readiness of petroleum sector employees and their continued efforts to secure the domestic market’s needs for natural gas and petroleum products.
He stressed that the system’s success in meeting the requirements of power generation plants and industrial sectors during the peak period for the second consecutive year reflects the efficiency of the operating system and the integrated efforts of all relevant authorities.
Badawi affirmed that the Ministry would continue implementing its plan to secure natural gas supplies through the end of the summer, with real-time monitoring of production and consumption rates and supply flows, while further enhancing the readiness of the national network to respond immediately to any changes.
He added that these measures would ensure sustainable gas supplies to various sectors across the country.
