Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said remittances and investments from Egyptians living abroad are among the country’s most important sources of foreign currency, playing a vital role in strengthening the economy’s resilience amid successive regional and global crises.
Madbouly made the remarks in a recorded address at the opening session of the seventh edition of the Egyptians Abroad Conference 2026, held under the theme “No Matter How Far We Go, Egypt Brings Us Together.” The event was attended by several ministers, members of both houses of parliament, representatives of government ministries and institutions, and members of the Egyptian diaspora.
Opening his address, Madbouly conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Egyptians abroad, saying the President has always regarded them as an integral part of the Egyptian people and has consistently appreciated their patriotism and enduring attachment to their homeland despite the distance.
“I am also delighted to be speaking with you today, and through you, to the millions of Egyptians living abroad who demonstrate every day the sincerity of their patriotism and their profound attachment to their country and its people,” Madbouly said. “They embody the unique character of Egyptians, whose sense of belonging, love and devotion to their homeland endure no matter how long they have been away.”
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates in supporting Egyptians overseas, facilitating services, maintaining close communication with expatriate communities, and creating opportunities for them in cooperation with other ministries and state institutions.
During his speech, Madbouly reviewed a number of issues concerning Egyptians abroad and outlined recent developments across various sectors in Egypt.
He stressed that, under the direct and continuous directives of President Al-Sisi, the government places great importance on supporting Egyptians abroad, strengthening their ties with their homeland, expanding opportunities for them to contribute to the country’s development process, improving services and facilitations, and safeguarding their interests, dignity and well-being.
Madbouly also expressed his appreciation for the patriotic role played by Egyptians abroad, noting their continued engagement with national affairs and their positive response to the opportunities provided by the state to invest their savings, expertise and capabilities in Egypt.
He said the government remains committed to introducing additional incentives, facilitations and investment opportunities to ensure Egyptians abroad continue to play a meaningful role in the country’s development, reconstruction and economic progress.
Addressing recent regional developments, Madbouly said the Middle East had experienced significant events in recent months that created economic challenges for Egypt and many other countries, including disruptions to energy supplies, higher fuel prices, rising global inflation, and increased costs for tourism, transport, insurance and shipping.
He noted that these developments placed additional pressure on the global economy and prompted downward revisions to international growth forecasts, particularly for the Middle East. Despite these challenges, he said, Egypt had succeeded in containing their impact and limiting the resulting economic damage.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Egyptian economy would continue returning to a positive trajectory, with improvements expected in employment, economic growth, unemployment, the fiscal deficit and exports.
He stressed that Egyptians abroad had been an essential partner in helping the country weather recent crises, noting that their remittances and investments represent one of Egypt’s most important sources of foreign currency and have significantly strengthened the economy’s resilience.
“You are partners in this nation and partners in every achievement it accomplishes,” he said.
Madbouly added that Egypt continues to implement its comprehensive development strategy across all sectors, with human development remaining the government’s top priority through continued investment in education and healthcare.
He also highlighted ongoing expansion in modern manufacturing industries, agricultural development and urban development through the establishment of new communities across several governorates. These projects, he said, are helping accommodate population growth, improve citizens’ quality of life, create jobs, stimulate economic growth and attract further investment.
Concluding his address, Madbouly reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening communication with Egyptians abroad, expanding the opportunities available to them, improving services and responding to their needs.
“You are a valued part of this great nation, and it is an honour for us to work for you. Long live Egypt, proud through the wisdom of its leadership and the determination of its people,” he said.
