The meeting also followed up on the outcomes of the recent official visit by Sweden’s Minister of Health to Egypt, reflecting both sides’ commitment to deepening collaboration in a more integrated and sustainable manner.
At the outset, El Ghamrawy highlighted the strength of Egyptian–Swedish relations and the authority’s keenness to expand cooperation with international partners. He noted that such collaboration would support knowledge exchange and enhance regulatory capabilities in line with global standards.
He also underscored the importance of technical cooperation with the Swedish Medical Products Agency to support Egypt’s efforts to achieve Maturity Level 4 (ML4) under the World Health Organization benchmarking system, reflecting the country’s commitment to adopting international best practices in pharmaceutical regulation.
For his part, Ambassador Juhlin-Dannfelt expressed Sweden’s appreciation for the authority’s pivotal regulatory role and reaffirmed his country’s support for Egypt’s ambition to position itself as a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing, contributing to enhanced drug security.
Discussions also covered the outcomes of the Swedish health minister’s visit, as well as mechanisms to activate joint cooperation, particularly in supporting Swedish companies operating in Egypt and facilitating procedures related to the supply of technical components for medical products.
Both sides emphasised Egypt’s strategic position as a gateway connecting European, African, and Middle Eastern markets, strengthening opportunities to localise advanced pharmaceutical industries and boost investment in the sector.
The meeting reflects growing international confidence in Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system and reinforces the role of the EDA as a trusted partner in strengthening supply chains, promoting high-quality investments, and supporting the transfer and localisation of advanced technologies—further solidifying Egypt’s position as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation.
