Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Chitose Noguchi, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Egypt, to explore opportunities for joint cooperation in energy, digital transformation, and data systems development in support of sustainable development.

The meeting reviewed the Egyptian government’s efforts, led by the Central Crisis Management Committee chaired by Mostafa Madbouly, to address ongoing economic and geopolitical developments.

Discussions focused on maintaining the resilience of development plans and growth targets amid global uncertainty through short- and medium-term measures. These include boosting private sector participation, strengthening fiscal discipline, and accelerating comprehensive economic development.

During the meeting, Rostom emphasised that the government is addressing current challenges with clarity and decisiveness, stressing its commitment to adapting to geopolitical fluctuations in order to sustain economic momentum. He highlighted proactive steps taken to improve economic conditions, building on reforms implemented in recent years.

Rostom added that the Ministry of Planning places strong emphasis on expanding the role of the private sector in infrastructure financing and entrepreneurship. He also underscored the importance of developing and enhancing data systems as a cornerstone of effective planning, alongside improving governance frameworks and building institutional capacity to ensure efficient implementation and the achievement of development goals.

For her part, Noguchi expressed UNDP’s appreciation for the Egyptian government’s strong commitment to advancing its reform agenda. She praised its ability to address immediate priorities while maintaining focus on long-term strategic objectives.

She affirmed that the United Nations Development Programme plays a key coordinating role in supporting Egyptian ministries, particularly the Ministry of Planning, in strengthening national planning processes and advancing economic and social development programmes across the country.
