Egypt’s House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Education for an inquiry during a plenary session on Sunday regarding the controversial curriculum of the 4th Grade.

MP Freddy El-Bayadi had submitted a request to summon the Education Minister before the House.

El-Bayadi said the new components of the 4th Grade curriculum showed the ministry’s ignorance of the reality of the educational situation in Egypt, and proved its failure in training teachers on the new curriculum, which made teaching the new course components almost impossible, burdening parents, teachers, and students.

He added that he explored the issue and will present a solution to the minister on Sunday.

Minister of Education Tarek Shawky stressed that the curriculum development in the 4th Grade was the best educational development in decades, and that he will defend his position.

Complaints of fourth graders’ families regarding the new curriculum went viral on social media during the last period.
