The US Embassy in Libya said it shares the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) its concerns about violence associated with the upcoming elections scheduled on 24 December.

In a tweet posted Saturday through its Twitter account, the US Embassy reiterated the need to protect the electoral process,

The embassy stressed that attacks on judicial or electoral establishments, judicial personnel or elections are not merely criminal acts punishable by Libyan law, but undermine the right of Libyans to participate in the political process.

In a statement, the UNSMIL expressed concerns at the attack on the Sabha Court of Appeal on Thursday, and strongly condemned any form of election-related violence.

The UNSMIL renewed its calls for transparent, fair, and comprehensive elections, in accordance with the roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Meanwhile, Saif al-Islam Gaddafi appealed to the Sabha court over libya’s High Electoral Commission’s decision to include him on the list of those rejected to run for president.

Mohammed al-Qalaushi, a member of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s political team, said the appeal was filed by the legal team of the late leader Gaddafi’s son to the Sabha court.
