A business delegation from the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) comprising 45 Indian companies is participating in the fifth Food Africa 2019 Exhibition which will be held from 9-11 December 2019 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre, Cairo.

The Indian Pavilion is being organised by ASSOCHAM, and supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, government of India, in association with the Embassy of India in Cairo.

The participating Indian companies represent various food products including rice, spices, grains, sugar, oil seeds, milk products, bakery products, dehydrated vegetables, food colours, herbal products, and seeds, said the Indian ambassador to Egypt, Shri Rahul Kulshreshth.

India’s major food exports to Egypt include bovine meat, tea, cereals, and dairy products while major food imports from Egypt include fresh fruits (orange and grapes), seeds, and edible vegetables, the ambassador added, noting that in 2018, India exported about $397m worth of food products to Egypt.

India has emerged as a major exporter of agricultural and processed food products in the world with exports increasing from about  $5bn in 2002-2003 to over $38bn in 2018-2019, mentioned the ambassador.

Indian agricultural and processed foods are exported to more than 100 countries, mainly in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), the European Union (EU), and the Americas.

Egypt has traditionally been one of India’s most important trading partners in the Arab-African region during the year 2018-2019. Bilateral trade between India and Egypt increased by 23% to reach the value of $4.56bn in 2018-19, compared to $3.68bn in 2017-2018.

India is Egypt’s ninth largest trading partner, eighth largest importer of Egyptian goods, tenth and largest exporter to Egypt.
