RAFAH: An Egyptian security official says border guards have fired at a group of four migrants trying to illegally cross into Israel from Sinai, killing one Eritrean and injuring another as well as a Sudanese national. A third Eritrean from the group has been arrested.

The official says the four ignored warning shots by guards south of the Egyptian border with Gaza.

Speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media, the official says a Sudanese man and a Liberian woman were separately arrested while also trying to cross the border Thursday.

Scores of African migrants are arrested each year in Egypt while trying to cross into Israel to seek asylum or jobs.
