Annual inflation increases by 11% in April

Egypt’s annual inflation rate in April 2015 rose by 11%, with March figures recording 11.8%, and 10.7% in February, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) announced Sunday.

The monthly inflation slightly declined, however, by about 0.1% over last April, recording 164.7 points compared to 164.8 in March, CAPMAS reported.

The prices of food and beverage commodities have risen by about 1.4% through April, reaching 190.8 points compared to 188.2 points in March. It has increased on an annual basis by 8.3% compared to April 2014, according to CAPMAS.

Over the period from January to April of the current year, inflation rate rose up by about 10.7% in comparison to the same period last year, said CAPMAS.

Furthermore, the CAPMAS statistics showed that the inflation rate in urban cities rose up by 0.1% recording 161.7 points compared to 161.5 points in March. However it has increased on annual basis by 11% compared to April 2014.

Meanwhile, inflation in rural areas has declined by 0.3% over last April compared to the previous month, reaching 168.2 points compared to 168.7 in March. Meanwhile, it has increased on annual basis by about 11% in comparison to the same period last year, CAPMAS statistics added.
