Supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi clashed with central security forces and opposing demonstrators outside downtown’s High Court on Monday afternoon following Morsi’s first appearance in court for inciting the killing of protestors in December 2012.

Police fired tear gas at Morsi supporters both east and west of the High Court on Ramses Street, while members of the military guarded the courthouse with armored personnel carriers and barbed wire fences.

Protestors on both sides exchanged volleys of rocks.  Supporters of Morsi, carrying Rabaa signs, chanted against the Ministry of Interior, while Morsi opponents shouted slogans for commander of the armed forces Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi.

Morsi appeared in court at the Police Academy in New Cairo on Monday for the first time since being detained on 3 July.  Morsi is one of 15 defendants in the case, including top Muslim Brotherhood leaders Mohammed El-Beltagi and Essam El-Erian.  The trial has been postponed until 8 January.
