One of Ramadan’s guilty pleasures is staring at pictures of delicious-looking food and salivating. It happens on almost all social media websites; one person shares a photo of Nutella Qatayef and soon the timeline is buzzing with people who are announcing their suffering. This was exactly how we were introduced to Devour Cupcakes bakery.

Zeinab Mostafa, the brains behind the bakery, created a dessert concoction that almost seems impossible: a chocolate cake with Nutella and konafa filling, wrapped in Maltesers, and topped with more konafa and Nutella. If hell had a dessert section, this would be it.

Coming from a mass-communication and marketing background, Mostafa found that her true passion lay in baking. “I started working at home in 2009, catering for birthday parties and the project grew until I decided to grow my home business into a full-fledged bakery,” Mostafa explained.

The bakery, which is nestled in the neighbourhood of Mohandeseen, is filled with an array of crazy creations that would make any dessert-lover go mad. For the holy month, Mostafa offers new twists on age-old sweets: “Our Ramadan menu is a fusion of our American desserts, along with the oriental desserts we crave in Ramadan. Konafa Nutella, Red Velvet Zalabia, and Konafa Maron Glacee are a few of our new innovations.”

Mostafa makes sure she uses only the best components in her desserts so that clients are guaranteed high-quality products: “Some of our ingredients are freshly acquired every day, like fruits, and other are bought in stock. Some of our products are high quality local products and others are French, Spanish, American and Malaysian.”

So, what makes Devour Cupcakes different from other cupcake shops in the capital? “We have the widest variety of cakes and cupcakes in Egypt. We also make customized 3D cakes with very intricate details and sometimes we get customers from other governorates around the country,” Mostafa said.

Mostafa’s most popular items on the menu are the Ferrero Rocher Nutella cupcake and the Red Velvet cupcake.
