28 dead in Egypt clashes: health ministry

CAIRO: The death toll from confrontations between protesters and police around Egypt has reached 28, the health ministry said on Tuesday, as the violence raged into a fourth straight day.

Spokesman Mohammed Sherbini said that 26 people had died in Cairo, one in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and one in the canal city of Ismailiya.

Police have been locked in sporadic clashes with protesters demanding the end of military rule.

Political forces have called for a mass rally in Cairo at 1400 GMT on Tuesday to call for democratic change.
