SHARM EL-Sheikh: Seven cars crashed Monday night outside El-Tor in South Sinai, leaving two Bedouins dead and four injured.
A group was traveling together in a convoy of six cars. One car tried to pass the rest, but collided with a vehicle driving in the opposite direction, and then crashed into the other five cars.
Eyewitnesses said the ambulances arrived late, leading relatives of the victims to transfer them to hospital in their private cars to try to save them.
A day earlier, 11 Hungarian tourists were killed in a bus accident near the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. Twenty-seven were injured.
Egyptian security and medical officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information, said the bus was carrying the tourists from their hotel to the airport on a highway. The driver lost control of the bus because he was speeding, the officials said.
The accident happened on the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Adha when many Egyptians and tourists head to Red Sea resorts on vacation.
Poor road conditions and lax enforcement of traffic laws in Egypt contribute to a high number of accidents.
The government estimates there are 8,000 road accidents a year in Egypt. –Additional reporting by agencies.
