Egypt’s leading real estate developers, tourism stakeholders and government entities have joined forces under the “Yalla Sahel” initiative, an unprecedented collaboration aimed at repositioning the country’s North Coast as an integrated, year-round destination for tourism, entertainment, investment and residential living.
Officially launched on July 12, the initiative marks a major shift in how Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline is marketed and developed. Rather than promoting individual resorts or competing destinations, Yalla Sahel presents the entire coastline—from Alexandria to Matrouh—as a single, interconnected destination capable of competing with internationally renowned Mediterranean hotspots such as the French Riviera, Ibiza and the Greek islands.
The initiative was spearheaded by prominent businessman Naguib Sawiris in partnership with some of Egypt’s largest private developers, including G Developments, led by CEO Ramy Halaby, and Intro Group, chaired by Ayman Abbas, with strong backing from state entities, most notably the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) under the leadership of Khaled Abbas.
A new vision for Egypt’s North Coast
For decades, Egypt’s North Coast has largely been viewed as a seasonal summer destination, with economic activity concentrated during a two-month peak season.
Yalla Sahel seeks to transform that model by creating a diversified ecosystem that supports tourism, hospitality, entertainment, business, retail and residential communities throughout the year.
The initiative aims to strengthen Egypt’s competitiveness as a regional tourism hub while encouraging long-term investment in hospitality, commercial developments and mixed-use urban destinations along the Mediterranean coast.
A key pillar of the initiative is the creation of a coordinated calendar of music, sports, cultural and lifestyle events, replacing the fragmented programming traditionally organised by individual resorts.
The summer 2026 programme features performances by leading Arab and international artists, including Amr Diab, Elissa, Tamer Ashour, Cairokee and Elyanna, attracting visitors from across Egypt and the wider region.
Sports tourism is also central to the initiative. Among its flagship events is the third edition of the 10K Race the Coast marathon in New Alamein, organised by Cairo Runners with more than 1,000 participants representing over 30 nationalities. The initiative also supports the Arabian Horse Beauty Championship, reinforcing the North Coast’s appeal as a destination for luxury sporting events and regional equestrian tourism.
Together, these events are designed not only to boost visitor numbers but also to position developers as creators of vibrant, year-round communities rather than solely builders of residential projects.
Building a digital ecosystem
Complementing the physical transformation is an integrated digital ecosystem designed to simplify the visitor experience.
The Yalla Sahel website serves as a central marketplace where users can browse and reserve verified chalets and luxury villas across destinations including Ras El Hekma, Sidi Abdel Rahman, Marassi and New Alamein. The platform also enables visitors to book beach club access and purchase tickets for concerts and major entertainment events.
At the operational level, the initiative has introduced the TELLR application as a digital concierge, providing real-time information on events, navigation, hospitality services and local activities across the coastline.

Supporting this ecosystem, Telecom Egypt (WE) has joined the initiative as its official telecommunications partner, deploying digital infrastructure to support growing visitor numbers and power the platform’s integrated services.
The Yalla Sahel alliance continues to attract new participants beyond its founding members. Developers such as Liberty Developments have announced their participation, reflecting growing industry recognition that collaborative destination marketing can generate greater value than isolated promotional campaigns.
Instead of competing independently for visitors, participating developers are contributing to a shared national marketing strategy aimed at increasing international tourism and attracting foreign direct investment into hospitality and mixed-use developments.
Strategic partnerships have also been established with TikTok, the initiative’s official digital media partner, to amplify events and lifestyle content globally, while EgyptAir and Air Taxi are supporting travel connectivity to facilitate easier access to the North Coast.
Beyond summer tourism
The initiative’s ambitions extend far beyond the traditional summer season. By integrating entertainment, hospitality, digital services, transportation and real estate under one umbrella, Yalla Sahel aims to generate sustained economic activity, create thousands of permanent jobs across construction, technology, hospitality and services, and encourage international hotel operators and global brands to expand their presence along Egypt’s Mediterranean coastline.
Industry leaders believe the collaborative model could redefine destination marketing in Egypt by replacing fragmented promotional campaigns with coordinated international branding that strengthens the country’s tourism appeal.
The initiative is also beginning to influence broader national development plans. During the launch, government officials and private-sector leaders revealed plans to replicate the model in other regions, including Upper Egypt and Aswan, with future initiatives expected to promote Egypt’s winter tourism destinations through similar public-private partnerships.
If successfully implemented, Yalla Sahel could become a new blueprint for destination development in Egypt, bringing together government, developers, technology companies, airlines and entertainment providers to create integrated tourism ecosystems that attract investment, support local economies and position Egypt more competitively on the global tourism map.
