Alexandria University’s Council has approved a donation worth EGP 1.53m from Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) to support the Aquaphoton team, which is representing the university in the regional competition for unmanned submarines and marine robots.

The donation aims to strengthen the team’s technical and operational capabilities, enabling it to represent Egypt in one of the region’s leading specialised competitions in engineering, innovation, and marine technology.

The move comes as part of TMG’s wider approach to supporting education, scientific research, and youth empowerment. The group said its support reflects its belief in investing in young talent and linking university education with innovation and practical application.

TMG has carried out several initiatives in recent years to support technical and applied education and connect students with labour market needs. The group serves as the industrial partner of Metwally El-Shaarawy School for Applied Technology and has also partnered with the Ministry of Education to launch the first applied technology school specialising in landscaping.

The school was established to prepare qualified technical cadres according to international standards and to support the growing demand for specialised skills in urban development and landscape management.

The group has also opened its projects to university students through summer internship programmes, providing practical training and helping students gain hands-on experience before entering the labour market.

In addition, TMG has organised field visits for students from faculties of fine arts and applied arts to Al Rehab City, allowing them to learn about modern urban planning and integrated community development. These initiatives reflect the group’s focus on combining academic learning with practical exposure.

The latest donation forms part of TMG’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which the group says has been integrated into its business model since its establishment more than five decades ago. The strategy is based on the view that sustainable development goes beyond building urban projects and includes investment in people, community support, and improving quality of life.

Over the past 50 years, TMG has implemented several community initiatives in healthcare, education, economic empowerment, culture, and sports. It has also contributed to the development of urban areas and supported national development initiatives.

In community development, the group has contributed to projects including Bashayer El Kheir and Gheit El Enab. It has also supported the Tahya Misr Fund and financed several charitable projects, including programmes for street children, the Working Women Association, Dar El Hanan schools for children with special needs, and El Saideya School.

TMG has also honoured national martyrs by naming several mosques and streets inside its communities after them.

In healthcare, the group played a role during the Covid-19 pandemic through a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Health to support the state’s efforts in responding to the crisis. Its social responsibility work was later recognised when the group received the Sustainability and CSR Award at the Egypt’s Best Summit.

TMG has also supported several major medical institutions in Egypt, including Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357, Ain Shams Children’s Hospital, Ahl Masr Burns Hospital, the National Cancer Institute, and the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation.

The group has also participated in the Nour Hayah initiative for eye treatment, supported Baheya Foundation, and established Talaat Moustafa Charity Hospital in Alexandria, which provides medical services to residents of Alexandria, Beheira, and Marsa Matrouh.

In the cultural sector, Madinaty has hosted five editions of the International Sculpture Symposium, with the participation of prominent artists from several countries. The city has also hosted a book fair in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the General Egyptian Book Organization, in addition to regular cultural and artistic events.

TMG has also supported sports through the sponsorship of Egyptian athletes in individual and team sports, as well as the organisation of major sporting events. These include the annual Madinaty Half Marathon and cycling marathons in Celia in the New Administrative Capital.

The group has also honoured academically and athletically outstanding residents, as well as veterans, within its urban communities.

Through these initiatives, TMG continues to position its social responsibility activities as a key part of its wider development strategy, with a focus on education, innovation, healthcare, culture, and community development.
