Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Mohsin Alhadhrami, Undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals and Chairperson of Petroleum Development Oman, on the sidelines of the International Mining Conference currently underway in Saudi Arabia, to discuss the exchange of expertise in the mining, oil and gas sectors.
During the meeting, Badawi reviewed recent positive developments in Egypt’s mining sector, highlighting emerging investment opportunities resulting from ongoing regulatory and structural reforms. He noted that transforming the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority into an economic authority has contributed to streamlining licensing procedures and accelerating investment-related processes.
The minister also highlighted the launch of Egypt’s first comprehensive airborne and seismic survey of mineral resources in more than four decades, aimed at updating geological data, enhancing transparency, and supporting the sustainable development of mineral wealth.
Discussions further covered potential areas of cooperation and joint investment opportunities in mining, building on the memorandum of understanding signed last year between Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Particular emphasis was placed on leveraging Oman’s advanced experience in the sector, especially following the completion of its comprehensive airborne survey, to ensure the optimal utilisation of mineral resources.
In addition, both sides explored ways to increase the participation of Egyptian companies in oil and gas infrastructure projects in Oman. Egyptian firms ENPPI and Petrojet are currently executing key projects in the Sultanate, while the Egyptian Drilling Company (EDC) has been registered to participate in well-drilling projects.
