President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Thursday reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the unity and sovereignty of Sudan, calling for an end to crimes committed against the Sudanese people and the accountability of those responsible.

In an expanded meeting at the presidential palace with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, the two leaders agreed on the urgent need to intensify regional and international efforts to restore peace. Sisi emphasised Egypt’s readiness to exert every possible effort to help Sudan overcome its current crisis and alleviate the “harsh humanitarian conditions” resulting from the ongoing conflict.

“The two sides stressed the necessity of stopping the crimes committed against the brotherly Sudanese people and holding those responsible accountable,” said Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official spokesperson for the presidency.

The talks also focused on broader regional security, specifically in the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa. Both leaders confirmed that their visions regarding national security priorities were identical, particularly concerning water security. They expressed a firm rejection of unilateral measures in the Blue Nile Basin and underscored the need to respect international law to protect the interests of all riparian states.

Burhan expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support during the crisis, stating that Cairo’s efforts reflect the depth of the fraternal ties between the two nations.

The official reception included an honor guard ceremony and the playing of national anthems, followed by bilateral discussions between the respective delegations and a luncheon hosted by Sisi in honour of the Sudanese leader.
