Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Sunday met with John Christmann, CEO of US oil and gas exploration company Apache Corporation, to discuss the company’s activities and expansion plans in Egypt, the presidency said.

Al-Sisi praised Apache’s successes in Egypt over the past decades and lauded the company’s plans to expand its operations in the country in line with the highest international standards.

“Apache is one of the most important partners in the Egyptian oil and gas sector, being the largest American investor in Egypt,” Al-Sisi said, according to a presidential statement. He stressed that the company’s initiatives have sent a positive message about the strength of Egyptian-American cooperation and have encouraged more US investment in the energy sector.

The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, Apache’s Senior Vice President of International Assets, Greg McDaniel, and the company’s general manager in Egypt.

Christmann expressed his appreciation for meeting with the president again and affirmed Apache’s desire to boost production rates in the coming period, given the many opportunities for new discoveries.

Al-Sisi also followed up on the status of the exploration programme in the new areas assigned to the company in the Western Desert. He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to Apache to help achieve the common interests of both sides and expressed his hope that the company would intensify its exploration and development activities in the country.
