Scientific and technological cooperation between BRICS countries is of critical importance for ensuring their technological sovereignty, the rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Mikhail Gordin, said.

Speaking in an exclusive interview at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Gordin said that BRICS members and their partners can jointly develop new technologies.

“The BRICS countries and their partners are states that can jointly develop new technologies. The most important thing for these countries is technological independence, technological sovereignty, which is valuable in itself,” Gordin emphasised at the TV BRICS studio in the Roscongress International Cooperation Area.

According to him, technological sovereignty for Russia is “the ability to survive on its own,” while for its BRICS partners, it is the ability to maintain independence by using solutions from different sources.

“This is a very good way to maintain sovereignty, to be able to take developments from more than one source,” he noted.

Gordin also spoke about his university’s experience in this area. He noted that Bauman Moscow State Technical University cooperates with a number of BRICS countries, particularly China, through participation in conferences and joint scientific developments. The university has also established ties with countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), some of which are BRICS partners, he said.
