Egypt’s total foreign trade reached approximately $64.923bn during the first half (H1) of the fiscal year 2024/25, according to a recent report issued by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). Of this total, imports amounted to around $46.212bn, while exports totalled $18.711bn.
The CBE noted that trade with Egypt’s 14 leading partners — who collectively accounted for 67.9% of the country’s foreign trade — reached a combined value of $44.109bn. This figure included $31.638bn in imports and $12.471bn in exports.
The United States topped the list of Egypt’s trade partners during this period, with a total trade volume of $5.838bn. This comprised $3.890bn in imports and $1.947bn in exports. The United Arab Emirates followed closely, with trade reaching $5.671bn — $3.249bn in imports and $2.422bn in exports.
China ranked third, with bilateral trade amounting to $5.577bn. The vast majority of this was made up of imports, which reached $5.447bn, while exports to China stood at just $130.5m. Saudi Arabia came fourth with $4.855bn in total trade, including $3.930bn in imports and $925m in exports.
Germany ranked fifth, with trade between the two countries reaching $2.992bn — $2.036bn in imports and $955.6m in exports. Trade with Italy stood at $2.845bn, comprised of $1.472bn in imports and $1.372bn in exports. Turkey followed with a total trade value of $2.787bn, including $1.727bn in imports and $1.060bn in exports.
The United Kingdom ranked eighth among Egypt’s major trading partners, with trade reaching $2.479bn — $1.279bn in imports and $1.199bn in exports. Switzerland followed closely with $2.462bn in trade, comprising $1.248bn in imports and $1.214bn in exports.
Brazil recorded a trade volume of $2.229bn, dominated by imports at $2.079bn, with exports totalling $150m. Russia came next, with a trade volume of $2.142bn — $2.042bn in imports and $99.3m in exports.
Trade with France reached $1.545bn, including $1.063bn in imports and $482.3m in exports. India followed with $1.492bn, broken down into $1.371bn in imports and $121.5m in exports. The Netherlands completed the list of top partners with $1.190bn in trade, including $801.6m in imports and $389.2m in exports.
The report also highlighted trade with all other countries, which reached a total of $20.814bn during the same period. This included $14.574bn in imports and $6.240bn in exports.
