Daily News Egypt honoured Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin, the High-Level Climate Champion for COP27, Office of the UN Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as the personality of the year. The inaugural Daily News Egypt annual summit and DNE Awards were held on 15 March at St. Regis Cairo Hotel.
The award comes in recognition of Mahmoud Mohieldin efforts in boosting sustainable development and climate work within the financial sector and his tireless work around COP27.
Recently Mahmoud Mohieldin contributed to the Brookings Institution publication on the challenges and opportunities for Climate Action in Egypt, where he shared the perspectives from other developing countries with a focus on domestic policy and climate finance. Besides his several speeches and contributions on the outcomes of the COP27, he also addressed scaling-up finance in developing countries for Climate Action and achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr Mahmoud Mohieldin has raised the issue of sustainable development and how developing countries improve the use of resources to achieve development goals in many relevant international forums and forums, highlighting the value of people and good governance to make the most of Africa’s development potential.
The DNE Awards & Summit were held under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB).
The summit, titled “Leadership in Times of Crisis”, addressed the economic reform process in Egypt, and it shed light on the deals, ideas, and visions that have made a difference in all fields. Additionally, DNE Awards honoured the most influential people and firms in Egypt during 2022/23.
The DNE Awards & Summit event provided a platform to listen to the leaders who challenged crises and overcame several obstacles and review investment opportunities in Egypt.

The DNE Awards & Summit included the most influential companies, leaders of Egyptian institutions, ideas, and personalities with an international presence. It will also witness the participation of government representatives, ambassadors, and international institutions in Egypt, as well as culture and thought makers, thought and opinion leaders, and technology developers whose opinions shape society and lead it to the future.
