PractiQ Consulting, in collaboration with GS1 Egypt, announces the launch of a “GMark”, an emissions management project that uses advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology to help businesses measure their carbon emissions accurately and reduce their emissions to reach net-zero status.

The announcement comes on the sidelines of the 2022 United Nations’ Climate Change Conference, known as COP27, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

PractiQ Consulting and GS1 Egypt launched “GMark” to support Egypt’s international initiative to increase the safe disposal of solid waste, especially single-use plastic, by 50% by 2050.

GMark offers a real-time map of green and eco-friendly buildings, businesses, institutions, shops, and more. The GMark map also shows locations that offer eco-friendly products.

Under this partnership, GS1 Egypt will provide the location and product codes for businesses applying to join the GMark map.

Over 200 volunteers from various countries and nationalities took part in the ‘50% by 2050’ initiative during COP27. During the two-week-long global event, participants collected roughly 12 tons of plastic waste from Sharm El-Sheikh. The collected plastic waste was then handed over to a recycling facility in the city.

Launched by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, the “50% by 2050” initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gases resulting from such waste as well as treat and recycle such waste by at least 50% across the African continent.
