The Korean Cultural Center in Cairo launched on Sunday the 2022 K-POP Academy event at the Ballet Institute, affiliated to Egypt’s Academy of Arts. It is an educational course for K-POP dancing skills. The 2022 K-POP Academy will run till 18 September.

This year’s K-POP Academy event is more meaningful as it supports the establishment of a self-sustaining K-POP community in Egypt in line with the cultural and artistic trends that have changed due to COVID-19.

The K-POP Academy instructors usually come from Korea, but due to the cultural and artistic environment changes caused by COVID-19, the winners of the K-POP World Festival held by the Cultural Center last May, will serve as instructors in this edition. People with passion and stage experience of K-POP will become instructors while sharing their accumulated know-how during the academy’s classes.

A total of 12 instructors will teach songs from famous K-POP idol groups such as Stray kids and BTS. Sixty students have been selected out of 320 people applied for the event, showing participants’ high enthusiasm. The 60 selected students will learn dancing skills over the next 3 weeks.

Oh Sung-ho, director of the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo, expressed his happiness for organizing the event, noting that it is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the K-pop community.

He noted that he plans to invite many experts in all cultural fields to deepen and strengthen cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Egypt and South Korea.
