Acting Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed a report on the current epidemiological situation of the coronavirus (COVID-19) locally and globally during the cabinet weekly meeting.

The minister explained that the number of coronavirus infections is increasing weekly globally for the fifth week in a row after the last drop in cases since the last peak in March.

The number of infections and deaths increased during the week from 4 to 10 July 2022 by 15% and 7%, respectively, compared to the previous week.

On the local level, Abdel Ghaffar indicated that the 28th week of 2022, which extends from 10 to 16 July witnessed an increase in infection, according to the data of the National Electronic Programme for Surveillance of Infectious Diseases, which represents the data of 542 hospitals nationwide.

In this regard, Prime Minister Mostafa Madboly stressed that the resurgence of infections with COVID-19 confirms the importance of adhering to the application of prevention measures, especially wearing medical masks and avoiding gathering places while continuing to get vaccinated.

The minister also presented the position of receiving vaccines locally, explaining that the vaccine was provided to about 38 million people through 1,393 centres nationwide, adding that the rates of isolation occupancy in the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Population reflect reassuring results so far, given that they do not exceed the available number of inpatient beds, intensive care beds, and ventilators.
