12 MB members arrested in Beheira

CAIRO: Security forces arrested 12 Muslim Brotherhood deputy leaders in the governorate of Beheira late Saturday, including a former member of parliament.

The group was meeting at the house of Adly Hussein, an MB member, who was also arrested.

Among the 12 detained are: Mohamed Swedan, head of the MB administrative office in the governorate, and Mohamed Gamal Heshmat, former member in the People’s Assembly (PA).

The other members include Hosni Omar, an MB candidate for the Shoura Council’s 2007 elections; Hamdy Ebead, secretary general of the Arab Doctors’ Union in the governorate; businessmen Sobhy Al-Tahan and Mustafa Al-Kholy; as well as Mahdy Kersh, professor in the faculty of veterinary medicine at the University of Alexandria.

According to the MB’s official statement, security officials raided the houses of the 12 members after the arrests in search of documents and personal computers.

According to the statement, security officials confiscated the computer of Swedan’s elder son, Ahmed, who lives in the same building with his father but in a different apartment, after they failed to find a computer at Swedan’s house.
