Court sentences man to death over murder of Alexandria priest

The Alexandria Criminal Court, headed by Counselor Waheed Sabry, sentenced a man to death over the murder of priest Arsanios Wadeed Rizkallah of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Karmouz, Alexandria.

The Public Prosecution said that the defendant suffered no mental illness and was psychologically stable during the investigations.

The prosecution referred the suspect to the criminal court on 20 April. The prosecution listened to the testimony of 17 witnesses.

The case dates back to 7 April, when a man attacked Wadeed with a bladed weapon in front of the gate of Ishaq Helmy beach.

The witnesses of the incident were the officials and workers of the beach. They said that the victim and others were in a weekly meeting held by the church on the beach at the time.
